(KMOV) -- Former students are coming forward in support of a former high school basketball coach and teacher accused of sexually abusing at least seven boys. As we've been telling you, the science teacher also coached boys basketball at both DeSmet and Francis Howell.
None of the cases that have surfaced against him have been prosecuted because they allegedly occurred in the 1970s and the statute of limitations has expired.
A former student who has known the man for more than 20 years says the allegations are quite surprising.
"There was a fairly large group of us that did a lot of the same activities with him and we've been discussing it, and no one has ever experienced anything like this with him or expected that sort of behavior; just completely out of character," Matt Kaatman says.
The coach retired from Francis Howell in 2000.
