FENTON, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- The huge industrial facility on nearly 300 acres along I-44 once employed more than a thousand people. Now the buildings are gone, but the hope is the empty space will be fertile ground for hundreds of jobs again.
Since there were no takers on the old Chrysler plant... no car-makers interested in taking it over... it was time to get rid of it.
Now Mayor Dennis Hancock says the company in charge of the property will sell it in pieces and there could be a deal in place to sell some of it by the end of the year. It will likely be at least a couple more years after that before a new business or businesses are operating there.
Mayor Hancock says the sluggish economy has made it hard to get one developer to spend a lot of money. By breaking it up, the city can find multiple buyers at smaller prices.
The result hopefully means more money and more jobs.
