In early August, 53-year old Chester Scherer went to a party and that was the last time he was seen alive. Three weeks later, his body was discovered near a revine in rural Desoto about 10 miles from the party.
Authorities have charged 33-year old Kenneth Ritrovato Jr. with murder and 31-year old Angela Parke with tampering with evidence.
Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer says witness statements and physical evidence helped put all the pieces together.
Boyer says the trio knew each other... were friends. But there was some ongoing fued between Ritrovato and Scherer about which the Sheriff doesn't know. That's still part of the investigation.
The Sheriff says the pair went away from the party and Scherer never came back. Days later the Dodge Durango they were said to be in was found burned in St. Louis. Before that happened, the suspects father told authorities he'd seen his son washing lots of blood off the Durango.
When authorities found the victim's decomposed body, they also found a knife nearby which turned out to have the victim's blood on it.
Ritrovato is being held on unrelated federal charges in another state. Parke is in the Jefferson County Jail held on a $7,500 cash bond.
Chester Scherer's brothers stopped by the Sheriff's Office to hear what he had to say, but they had no comment for us on the arrest of their brother's alleged killer
Sheriff Boyer says his investigation continues and more charges could be filed against more people.
