BELLEVILLE, Il. (KMOV) -- A Cub Scout leader is behind bars, charged with stealing over a thousand dollars from her Cub Scout pack. Her family says this is all just a misunderstanding.
Wendy Hoffman is being held in the St. Clair County jail charged with a class III felony of theft. Detectives say Hoffman took approximately $1500 from the bank account of the Cub Scout pack and used it for personal use.
Dawn Scronce, Hoffman's sister, says it's all a misunderstanding and that Hoffman did not steal a thing. Scronce says Hoffman was just named pack leader and used the money for Cub Scout related things like a new flag, shirts for the scouts, and derby cars for a fundraiser. She says the problem is that Hoffman did not keep the receipts.
Hoffman's bond is set at $15,000.
