Following the murder of a 47-year-old father of three, St. Louis County Police called a neighborhood meeting to talk about the case and ways residents can get involved in crime prevention.

Tyrone Thompson was an investigator for the Missouri Attorney General and served as a police chief in Pagedale before that.

On Saturday night, Thompson was the victim a random crime. Investigators believe two 18-year-old men attempted to rob Thompson as he sat in his car on Jerries Lane - waiting to pick up a friend. Police say Billy Cushon-Bey and Jakeem Hicks had just left a dice game up the street and were trying to earn back money one of them lost by robbing Thompson. There was a gun battle. Police say Thompson was killed, but so was Hicks. Cushon-Bey now faces charges for both murders.

St. Louis County Police say the agency heard from many residents concerned about the Thompson case.  Police decided to call a neighborhood meeting.

St. Louis County Police held a similar meeting in south county on May 26th - following the beating of a couple in their Affton area home.  A large crowd also attended that meeting:  www.kmov.com/community/blogs/reporters-blog/South-County-Neighbors-Meet-With-Police-Following-Brutal-Attacks-94974419.html

At Wednesday's north county meeting, at least 140 people (by my count) turned out to hear from the lead detective on the Thompson case and ask questions. St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch also addressed the crowd and asked them to get involved in neighborhood watch programs.

There will be a neighborhood watch meeting on Thursday, June 10th at 7 p.m. at the Hazelwood School District Early Childhood Education Center at 12555 Partridge Run Drive.
