A five year old St. Louis boy is recovering from his injuries after falling from the 3rd story window of his family's apartment. It happened around 5:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of Chippewa. An adult on the ground, caught the child before he hit the concrete sidewalk.

The boy, Trystan Corbell, climbed onto a window ledge from his third floor bedroom. His mother says she left him in his room for a few minutes while she went into the next room to change her clothes and change her other son's diaper.

Michelle Corbell says Trystan is autistic and managed to open a locked bedroom window, move the mini-blinds aside, and climb onto the ledge.

Passers-by on the street saw the child and screamed. A man, standing nearby, rushed to help and caught the child.

The boy's teeth reportedly hit the rescuer, Carlos Rucker, cutting Rucker's forehead. Rucker is the Corbell's neighbor. Police say Rucker was nearby when the child climbed onto the window ledge and a crowd gathered. According to police, Rucker pushed through the crowd and put himself in a position to catch the child.

Fire officials say Rucker did not appear to be seriously injured, but he was taken to St. Louis University hospital.  A spokesperson for the hospital said that Rucker was admitted into the ER and received stitches, but would likely be released tonight.

Trystan was also taken to the hospital and may need stitches, but it otherwise recovering well - according to the boy's mother. Corbell says Rucker saved her son's life.

How can you thank or even try to repay someone that has saved something so irreplaceable, like your child's life? It's impossible. I don't even know what to do," said Corbell.
