Kirkwood superintendent Dr. Tom Williams receives the highest base salary in the metro area. His contract pays him $242,000 a year plus roughly $42,000 in benefits, giving him total compensation of $284,000, probably the largest financial package for a local Superintendent. Dr. Williams receives a $500 a month transportion allowance. Kirkwood has high test scores and a reputation as a very good district, but the compensation paid to Dr. Williams doesn't make sense when you consider that several districts have higher composite ACT scores, and there are many districts that are much larger than Kirkwood.
