Spring Begins Sunday!!!

Spring officially begins at 6:21pm Sunday March 20. After a rough winter, I’m sure we’re all looking quite forward to it…I know I am.
The Spring (Vernal) Equinox occurs when the sun shines directly overhead at the equator. That event happens twice a year, the other being the Fall Equinox. At these times, the hours of daylight and darkness are approximately the same. The difference is that after the Spring Equinox the days are getting longer and the nights are getting shorter. The reverse is true for the Fall Equinox.
Looking ahead at the spring season, I checked the latest from the Climate Prediction Center. They issue monthly and seasonal outlooks for both temperatures and precipitation. For April, May and June, our area has equal chances for above normal, normal, and below normal temperatures. I like to think of it as temperatures will be about average. Here’s a link to the graphic.
For that period in time, the same is true of our precipitation. Equal chances of above, below and normal precip. Here’s that link.
