Ready or not, winter is on the way!
Today has been designated Winter Weather Awareness Day in Missouri by a long list of state and federal agencies, including the National Weather Service, the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Health and Senior Services, the Missouri Highway Patrol, and the State Fire Marshal. Simultaneously, Illinois has recognized this entire week as Winter Weather Preparedness Week.
The idea here is to get geared up for the inevitable snow, sleet, and freezing rain that will impact Missouri and Illinois in the coming months. It couldn't hurt to brush up on things like wind chill, the various types of winter storm watches, warnings, and advisories, and most importantly, the steps you should take to keep you and your loved ones safe in times of inclement wintery weather.
Our friends at the local National Weather Service office have put together a comprehensive guide to all of these things, and much more. Just click here to learn everything you need to know to prepare for the approaching winter season.
Even the 4Warn Storm Team reviews a great deal of this information leading into our cold season. Here's the bottom line -- you can never be too prepared, but you can certainly be unprepared. Let's err on the side of caution. Let's be ready for whatever Mother Nature decides to throw our way this winter!
