4th Hottest Summer, Now Drought

June, July and August mark the meteorological Summer and for St. Louis it was the 4th hottest in 141 years of records.  What's interesting is that it bumped last year's Summer from the 4th spot to 5th!  2 years in a row of this intense heat (you can see the list of top ten hottest Summer's below).

And this Summer was marked not just by hot and very humid afternoons, including a 19 consecutive day heat warning, but also by very warm nights.  Regularly we have seen our low temperatures only fall to the low 80s, which then spring to the 90s & 100s in the afternoon. (and by the way, this is all coming off the 6th snowiest season on record...it's all about extremes lately)

And remember when we were talking about how if we had normal to slightly above normal Summer rainfall that we would get record flooding on the Missouri River?  Well, Mother Nature went the opposite way with the rainfall.  Now St. Louis is in a moderate drought with areas North in a Severe drought.
