Andrew not only knows how to be helpful at school, he knows how to be a very good friend. So one day at school when he realized that one of his friends with special needs didn’t have a caregiver with him, Andrew went to his aid. Without being asked, Andrew helped his friend in many ways. Andrew guided his friend down the hall and made sure he arrived safely wherever he needed to go. Whatever help his friend needed, Andrew was as his side ready to assist in any way. So today honor Andrew Boswell for doing the right thing. Thanks to his caring spirit and acts of kindness, a child with special needs was able to function well at school. Ms. Stephanie Penrose of Woerner Elementary who nominated him stated, “Andrew stepped up and made sure this special student was safe….and he did it without being asked. I was so impressed with Andrew—he truly did the right thing!”

Recently Latarkus became familiar with Pennies for Peace, an organization that sends money to Afghanistan and Pakistan for their schools. Latarkus decided he wanted to help the school children in some way. So, on his own Latarkus began fundraising for this cause so disadvantaged children would have books and school supplies. Latarkus has put in a lot of time and effort into this cause and recently presented a donation to Pennies for Peace. And, Latarkus continues to accept pennies whenever possible for this wonderful cause. So today we honor Latarkus Cutler for doing the right thing. Thanks to his kind and giving spirit, many school children who are disadvantaged will have books and school supplies. Laurie Arieux from Alton Middle School who nominated him stated, “Latarkus did this project independently and without a teacher’s suggestion. We are so proud of him.”
Bryan Dimmick

A seemingly regular day recently took a major turn for Bryan. All of a sudden he realized his father wasn’t feeling well. As Bryan watched his father’s condition become increasingly worse, he decided to take action. Bryan called 911 and conveyed important information about what was occurring. Emergency medical personnel were dispatched and arrived in a timely manner. And, we’re happy to say, that thanks to Bryan’s actions, his father received proper care and successfully recovered. So today we honor Bryan Dimmick for doing the right thing. Thanks to his mature and brave actions, his father’s life was saved. St. Louis County Sgt. Michael Amrein (am-RINE) who nominated Bryan stated, “Without intervention, his father would have faced serious medical implications from lack of care. He was calm, composed, and handled himself with the poise of a much older person. He should be commended for his actions.”
Malachi Fisher

Malachi enjoys being a part of the student patrol at school. While working as a patrol after school one day, Malachi realized a kindergartener was upset and found out he had been a victim of a fight. Instead of ignoring the situation, Malachi immediately went to his aid. Since the child had an injury, Malachi stayed at his side and then informed the bus driver what had occurred. Thanks to Malachi’s appropriate actions, the child received proper help and the matter was handled appropriately. And we’re happy to report, the young child is doing well. So today we honor Malachi Fisher for doing the right thing. Thanks to his responsible and caring ways, a bad situation was handled appropriately and an innocent child received proper care. Tanya Herkenoff of Union Elementary who nominated him stated, “I am incredibly impressed with the compassion and responsibility Malachi has displayed. In addition, Malachi has given the rest of the sixth graders a great person to look up to and see as a role model.”
Dylan Hart

A regular day for Dylan suddenly took a frightening turn. His house caught on fire and rapidly became engulfed flames. Immediately Dylan ran to his neighbors for help so 911 could be called and so he could report that his grandmother was unable to get out of the house. Thanks to Dylan’s quick actions, Moline Acres Sgt. David BoBo and Police Officers Derrick Sutton and Charles Dawson arrived on the scene and bravely ran into the burning house and got his grandmother out safely. And we’re happy to report the officers and Dylan’s grandmother are doing fine. So today we honor Dylan Hart for doing the right thing. Thanks to his brave and courageous actions, his grandmother’s life was saved. Moline Acres Police Chief David Dorn recently honored Dylan for his bravery and wanted him recognized by Do The Right Thing. Ms. Velecia Hinton of the Moline Acres Police Department who sent in his nomination stated, “Without Dylan’s quick thinking, the police could not have made it on time and his grandmother may not be here today!”
Markece Johnson
Imagine Academy
Markece enjoys helping others. So when he found out he could help out a mother who is disabled, he came to her aid. Nearly every day Markece helps her carry her laundry, takes out the trash or does tasks such as carrying groceries into her house from her car. Markece also enjoys helping with the mother’s three year old and even brings over a little cousin to play with him. Markece offers help in any way possible and makes life much easier for a mother with a significant disability. So today we honor Markece Johnson for doing the right thing. Thanks to his kind acts and service to others, a person with a disability has a much better quality of life. Ms. Carol Guerrero, the lady he helps and nominated him stated, “Markece has been a tremendous help and asks if I need help almost every day. He is so kind to me and the perfect child for this award.”
Lindsey Mank

Lindsey knows how to be a good friend. So when she realizes a fellow classmate with special needs requires assistance, she is happy to help. No matter what is asked of Lindsey, she is happy to lend a hand. She befriends and helps the special needs student whenever possible and always does it in a positive way. The student not only receives assistance, but has a friend in Lindsey. And thanks to Lindsey’s help and friendship, school days are more fulfilling for a special needs student. So today we honor Lindsey Mank for doing the right thing. Thanks to her kindness and service to others, a special needs child receives help and friendship in order to be successful at school. Ms. Samantha Hedrick of Smithton School who nominated her stated, “Lindsey is a great role model for this special needs student and will jump the second you ask her to do something to help out. She is a great candidate for Do The Right Thing.”

Garret enjoys volunteering to help out at school. When he realized a special needs student needed helping getting to and from his resource room each day, Garret volunteered to help. Garret totally enjoys spending time with the student and takes the time to be his friend each and every day at school. Thanks to Garret, the special needs student gets around school easily and has fun spending time with a good friend. No matter what is needed, Garret comes to the rescue! So today we honor Garret Pulcher for doing the right thing. Thanks to his caring spirit and kind ways, a student with special needs has a more fulfilling day at school. And, the student has a true friend! Ms. Patti Unnerstall of Parkview Elementary who nominated him stated, “Garret volunteered for this job and is a great role model for the rest of his classmates. He is very responsible and a great friend.”

One day when Lanyya was having what seemed to be a regular day at home, her mother suddenly fainted. Without hesitation, Lanyya called 911 and explained what had occurred. She also called her great-grandmother to tell her what was happening. In a short period of time, emergency medical personnel arrived and revived her mother. We’re happy to report that thanks to Lanyya’s actions, her mother received immediate medical attention and has successfully recovered. So today we honor Lanyya Williams for doing the right thing. Thanks to her responsible and brave actions, her mother’s life was saved. Her grandmother, Barbara Cain-Robinson who nominated Lanyya stated, “Thanks to Lannya knowing what to do, her mom and my daughter’s life was saved—it would have been a tragedy without Lanyya’s phone call to 911.”
