Robin Smith

News 4 St. Louis, Anchor Robin Smith  
Robin Smith is an Emmy award-winning News Anchor and the winner of numerous Emmy awards for reporting. She joined KMOV Channel 4 as an Anchor and Reporter on June 1, 1978. Born and raised in St. Louisan, Smith brings special insight to reporting and anchoring the news in the area, having worked in the market since 1973. Smith currently Anchors "News 4 St. Louis at Noon" Monday through Friday. Smith also reports "4 Your Money" on "News 4 St. Louis" at 5:00 and is the "Go Green" ecology reporter on News 4 at 6:00 p.m.

Smith, a veteran anchor and reporter, will celebrate 36 consecutive years in the St. Louis television market in 2009. She believes in giving back to the community in which she was born and raised.

Smith has received numerous awards from community organizations:

2008 - Better Family Life -- One of 25 Families Honored as Community Leaders. Her Smith family portrait is posted as a mural of inspiration in North St. Louis.

2007 - Lindy Award - Communications Alumna of the Year- Lindenwood University - St. Charles, Missouri.

2007 - First Ever Riker Award Recipient - for Variety, the Children’s Charity. This award is named after Norman and Gladys Riker, who adopted the first Variety Child, Catherine Variety Sheridan. Given to Smith for her more than 20 years of service to the Children of Variety.

2007 - Recognized as a "Founder" of the Greater St. Louis Association of Black Journalists.

2002 - Inducted into the Silver Circle (Hall of Fame) of the National Association of Television, Arts and Sciences. NATAS is the same organization that presents the coveted Emmy Award.

2000 - Inducted into the "Hall of Fame" by the Greater St. Louis Association of Black Journalists.

1999 - "Silver Beaver Award" presented by the Boy Scouts of America.

1998 - "Virginia Betts White Quest Awards" presented by The St. Louis Chapter of the Missouri Press Women.

1998 - "Media Award" presented by the Missouri Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

1997 - "Media Award" presented by the Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, Inc.

1995 - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Gamma Omega Chapter, "Diamond Achiever Award" in Television Media.

1995 - "Health Citizen of the Year" award presented by Combined Health Appeal of Greater St. Louis as part of Health Awareness Weeks.

1995 - Named Honorary Chairperson for the Mental Health Association of Greater St. Louis.

1995 - Signal Award presented by The St. Louis Sentinel Newspapers for her continued devotion to community service.

1994 - "Faith in Action" Award presented by Lutheran Family and Children's Services for living her faith in community service every day.

1993 - "Special Leader" award in Communications/Media presented by the YWCA of Metropolitan St. Louis

1988 - National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), St. Louis Chapter Emmy Award for "Best Anchorperson." 1986 - National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), St. Louis Chapter Emmy Award for "Spot News" coverage of the "Fatal Sandpile Accident."

1986 - "Meritorious Service and Outstanding Professional Achievement Award" presented by the Lindenwood Colleges of St. Charles, Missouri, one of only two such awards presented nationally each year.

1985 - NATAS Emmy Award for "General News" coverage of "City Smoke Detectors."

1985 - Missouri Broadcasters Association Award in the "Spot News" category for "Fatal Sandpile Accident."

1981 - NATAS Emmy Award for her coverage of the "First Day of Desegregation."

1979 - "Horace Mann Award in Education" for her coverage of the St. Louis Public School strike.

1978 - "Outstanding Young Woman of the Year" presented by the National Association of Colored Women's Clubs, Inc.

1978 - "Yes I Can" Award - Smith was the first recipient of this award from the Sentinel Newspaper for her outstanding achievement in television.

1977 - "Missouri Radio & Television News Association" for her coverage of the "Firestorm in Downtown St. Louis."

1975 - "Missouri Radio & Television News Association" for her work as Assistant Producer of "The Black Experience."

In June of 1996, Smith was unanimously elected as a member of the Board of Trustees of Saint Louis University. She now serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Smith is currently one of only a few women who have been elected to the Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America in the Missouri region. Smith was elected to that Executive Board in 1993.

As "Host" of the Sammy Davis, Jr. Memorial Variety Club telethon, Smith is a grand master of ceremonies when it comes to motivating viewers to give from their hearts for the area's physically disabled children. Smith has been "Host" of this telethon since 1988.

Smith has also been "Host" of the United Negro College Fund telethon since 1986, enabling students who need financial assistance to get a college education.

A native St. Louisan that works for St. Louis, Smith makes numerous appearances in the community to make St. Louis a better place to live. As part of KMOV Channel 4's "When Women Lead the Way" campaign, Smith works with the Junior League of St. Louis and the YWCA (Young Women's Christian Association). "When Women Lead the Way" was created as an informational campaign to help celebrate the vision of the top eight local women's service organizations and their accomplishments in the St. Louis community. Smith has also worked with the Urban League of Greater St. Louis, Forest Park Forever, Annie Malone Children's Home, American Cancer Society, Black Repertory Theatre, and Saint Louis Effort for AIDS, Missouri Black Expo, Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America and the National Association of Black Journalists.

Smith came to KMOV Channel 4 from KTVI-TV in St. Louis where she worked as an Anchor and Reporter for three years. She produced several "Close-Up" features, documentaries and was involved in investigative reports. Prior to joining KTVI-TV, Smith worked at KSD-TV where she was, at age 19, the youngest known member of any "on-air" television staff in St. Louis. Smith's television career began at KMOV Channel 4, where she interned during the summer of 1972. She worked as an Assistant Director and Producer at that time.

Smith graduated from Northwest High School. Smith also graduated from The Lindenwood University and received a B.A. degree in the double majors of Communications Arts and Psychology. Smith earned her graduate degree of EMIB - Executive Masters International Business - from the School of Business and Administration, at Saint Louis University on May 16, 1998.

Smith is married. Her husband and she have 2 sons, a daughter and a son in law. Their family is rich in cultural diversity and inclusion. Their family includes Indian, Hindu, African American, Episcopalian, Anglo-Saxon, Lutheran, Turkish, Muslim, Italian, and Catholic relatives.
