Dr.
Joe Petrovich
News 4 St. Louis Meteorologist
Joe
Petrovich came to KMOV Channel 4 as a Meteorologist in May 1994 with over 13 years
of broadcasting experience.
Prior to joining "News 4 St. Louis," he worked
at KTVI Channel 2, where he was a Meteorologist for five years, and at KSDK-TV
Channel 5, where he was a Meteorologist for two years. Before settling in St.
Louis, Petrovich worked in several different cities across the country. He was
Chief Meteorologist for WBAY-TV in Green Bay, Wis., as well as an on-camera Meteorologist
for the Weather Channel in Atlanta. Petrovich also worked as a producer and talent
for Aviation Weather in Anchorage, Alaska, a half-hour program that was broadcast
throughout the entire state.
During the 1970s, Petrovich worked with
two different air pollution studies in the St. Louis metropolitan area, Project
METROMEX (Metropolitan Meteorological Experiment) and RAPS (Regional Air Pollution
Study), serving as forecaster for the multi-million dollar field study.
A graduate of Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, N.Y., Petrovich earned his
Associate's degree in Math/Science. He then graduated from Saint Louis University
with a Bachelor's degree in Meteorology. In 1980, Petrovich earned his Master's
degree in Professional Meteorology from Saint Louis University and, in 2003, a
Ph.D. in Meteorology, also from Saint Louis University, where he teaches classes
in Broadcast Meteorology.
Petrovich is a past President of Saint Louis
University College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Association. He is also an honorary
member of Alpha Sigma Nu, a national Jesuit Society, and was recently elected
as an associate member of Sigma Xi, an international research honorary.
Petrovich is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National
Weather Association. He has earned the AMS Seal of Approval, received the Superior
Service Award from the National Weather Service and has been awarded the Dedicated
Service Award as a Meteorologist/Manager.
Working from one side of the
country to the other might have laid the foundation for Petrovich's greatest pleasure,
traveling with his wife.
