ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Most love stories do not involved cancer, but for Mary and Wayne Huff cancer brought them closer together.
Mary’s cancer meant the two best friends were in the right place at the time on November 3, the day of Mary’s lumpectomy. Wayne suffered a heart attack three days before his wife of 43 years went to St. Anthony’s for her cancer removal surgery.
As doctors removed Mary’s cancer, heart doctors gave Wayne a cardiac catheterization.
Mary went home to recover and Wayne went home wearing a life-vest, to monitor his heart for 90 days.
It took 10 days for the Huff’s to realize there was something wrong with Wayne’s heart. When his heart stopped, the life vest kickstarted it again.
Now, with cardiologist Chris Allen’s help, Wayne follows a new, heart healthy lifestyle.
The Huff’s say their illnesses have made their love grow and they are putting their hearts and humor into their recovery.
