Driving
on any tire that does not have the correct inflation pressure is dangerous and
can make it harder to steer and stop your vehicle. Make sure you check your tire's
air pressure on a regular basis.
Weather Conditions
As little as 1/8 of an inch of water on the roadway at highway speeds can cause
your vehicle to hydroplane. Make sure your driving speed is appropriate for
the weather conditions and that you have adequate tire tread depth to avoid
loss of control.
Flat Tire
If you have a
tire problem, make sure you get your vehicle off the roadway before you attempt
any solution. If your tire has gone flat, there is a good
chance that it's already ruined, so drive slowly for some distance to find
a safe stopping place. Your safety is more important than any tire.
Radiator
Your vehicle needs to stay cool in the heat of the summer too. Make sure you
have the proper mix of radiator coolant and that you check those belts and
hoses to keep you and your vehicle from overheating this summer.
Warning Lights
Don't
ignore 3 important warning lights on your vehicle. The service engine soon
light probably means your vehicle is due to have the engine oil changed. The
check engine light means as soon as possible but when the temperature
light
comes on,
you
should
pullover and turn the engine off now and call for help.
Shock Absorber
A worn or leaking shock absorber or strut can add 30 feet of
braking distance to bring a vehicle to a complete stop at 55
miles per hour. So be sure you have them checked on a regular
basis.
Clear View
Make sure you have a clear view of the road. Check those wiper blades before
it starts raining or snowing. Clear that windshield of frost, ice or snow before
you pull away. Those around you are counting on the driver having a clear view
of the road.
Headlights
& Signals
10% of the vehicles on the road have one or more lights not working. It is
important that your headlights show you the way but it is equally important
that everyone around you can see you and know where you are going. Check all
exterior light bulbs monthly!
